Council Members

Prof Karen, Chan
Chairperson
Professor Chan is currently a Clinical Professor and Chairperson at the Department of O&G for the Department of O&G, University of Hong Kong. She is also the Chief of Service for the Department of O&G in Queen Mary Hospital (QMH), Chair of Specialty, Department of O&G, Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong, and Chair of Department of O&G HKU-Shenzhen Hospital. She is the team leader for the gynaecological oncology service and the director of gynae-oncology training at QMH. She also serves as the chairman of the HKCOG gynae-oncology board.
Prof Chan’s main research interest is in cervical cancer prevention, hormonal receptor subtypes and molecular pathways in ovarian cancer. She has published more than 150 papers in international peer-reviewed journals. She supervises PhD students and serves as both internal and external examiners for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Prof Chan is the past president of HKCOG and the Hong Kong Society for colposcopy and cervical pathology. She is the secretary-general for Asia- Oceanic Organization in Genital infections and Neoplasia (AOGIN) and a council member of Asian Society of Gynaecological Oncology. She is also a member of the Policy Committee for the International Papillomavirus Society. Prof Chan also serves on the Cancer Coordinating Committee for the Hong Kong government.

Dr Ka Yu, Tse
Vice Chairperson
Dr Tse is Clinical Associate Professor in Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at The University of Hong Kong, honorary consultant of Queen Mary Hospital (QMH), and Chair of Department, Department of Gynaecology, the HKU-Shenzhen Hospital (HKU-SZH). She received her gynaecological oncology training in QMH and Addenbrooke’s Hospital (Cambridge, United Kingdom). She also visited the Centre of Hope, Renown Medical Centre (Reno, USA), Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Centre (New York, USA), and Centre Lambret Oscar (Lille, France) as visiting scholar.
She is currently an international mentor of the International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS) Global Curriculum for HKU-SZH, the Chair of the Gynaecological Oncology committee and Co-chair of the Cervical Cancer Elimination Working Group of the Asia & Oceania Federation of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, President-elect of Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Hong Kong, Vice President of the Hong Kong Society of Gynaecological Oncology, and editor of several peer-reviewed journals, such as Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research, Cancer Medicine and Scientific Reports. Her main research interest is biomarker and novel therapies in gynecologic cancers. She is a board member of the Asian Gynecologic Oncology Group (AGOG), and is actively involved in in multiple clinical and translational research.

Prof. Hextan Yuen Sheung NGAN

Professor Hextan Ngan is past Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) (2009-2021). She has also served as an Honorary Consultant and past Chief-of-Service at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Queen Mary Hospital (QMH).(2009-2021) Professor NGAN is the Chief-of-Service (2012-2024) and an IGCS global curriculum trainer at HKU-Shenzhen Hospital.(2019-) She holds the prestigious position of President at the International Society for the Study of Trophoblastic Diseases (2023-2024). Her past leadership roles include being the President of the Hong Kong College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (2010-2012), the Hong Kong Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (2001-2004), and the Asia-Oceania Research Organization in Genital Infection and Neoplasia (2010-2012). She has also chaired the Oncology Committee of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) (2000-2006).

Professor Winnie Yeo
Advisor
Professor Winnie Yeo is currently Professor of the Department of Clinical Oncology, Faculty of Medicine, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Chief of Service in the Department of Clinical Oncology, Prince of Wales Hospital, Hong Kong. She is the Co-Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Trials Unit of the Department of Clinical Oncology, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She was the Chairman of the Medical Oncology Specialty of the Hong Kong College of Physicians between 2007 and 2013, and Past President of the Hong Kong Breast Oncology Group. She serves as a member and advisor in various expert panels and committees within the University, the Hong Kong Hospital Authority and various health advisory panels. She has authored and coauthored over 270 papers. Her main research interests are management of breast, gynecological and gastric cancer patients.

Dr Inda, Soong

Dr. SOONG, Sung Inda (宋崧醫生)

Dr. Inda SOONG is currently the Chief of Service cum Consultant Clinical Oncologist at the Department of Clinical Oncology of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in Hong Kong. She is responsible for the development of cancer service and palliative care in Hong Kong East Cluster under the Hospital Authority.
She is appointed as the Honorary Clinical Associate Professor of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong and the Faculty of Medicine of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Dr. Inda SOONG graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She received clinical oncology training in Hong Kong, and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiology and a Fellow of the Hong Kong College of Radiology.
In addition, she has also attained a master's degree in palliative medicine from Cardiff University in the United Kingdom and a master's degree in public health from the University of Hong Kong in her professional development.
Her oncological areas of interest include breast cancer, gynaecological malignancies, and palliative care.

Dr Bryan, Li
Secretary
Dr. Li graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong in 2004. He completed his basic and higher physician training in the Department of Medicine at Queen Mary Hospital. In 2012, after completing specialist training in both Advanced Internal Medicine and Palliative Medicine, he was admitted as a fellow of internal medicine. Subsequently, Dr. Li worked as a resident specialist and associate consultant in the Palliative Medical Unit at Grantham Hospital. During this time, he also served as an honorary clinical assistant professor in the Medical Ethics and Humanities Unit, where he was involved in teaching and tutoring medical students.
Dr. Li underwent specialist training in Medical Oncology at Queen Mary Hospital and a specialist in Medical Oncology. He is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Centre of Cancer Medicine, Department of Medicine, and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the LKS School of Clinical Medicine, University of Hong Kong. Additionally, he is involved in teaching cancer medicine to undergraduates at the medical school.

Prof Roger, Ngan
Council member
Prof Roger Kai Cheong Ngan is a specialist in Clinical Oncology in Hong Kong. He is currently working as an honorary consultant, the co-director of the Lung Cancer Center and the Head & Neck Tumor Center at Gleneagles Hospital HK.
He is also an honorary Clinical Professor in the Department of Clinical Oncology of the University of Hong Kong, an honorary consultant in the Departments of Clinical Oncology of both Queen Mary Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and in the Department of Surgery of Kwong Wah Hospital of Hong Kong. He is the Chairperson of the governing committee of the Cancer Research Laboratory of Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
He is the President of the Hong Kong Head and Neck Society, the founding council member of the Hong Kong Breast Oncology Group, and an associate editor of the Hong Kong Journal of Radiology. He has worked as Clinical Professor in the Department of Clinical Oncology of HKU, and Chief of Specialty for Oncology at Gleneagles Hospital from 2018 till 2023.
Prof Ngan has a special interest in the clinical research of gynecological cancers, breast cancers, lung cancers, head & neck cancers, and soft tissue sarcomas. He has published more than 150 articles in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters.

Dr Mandy chu
Council member
Dr. CHU, Man-Yee Mandy is a specialist in gynaecological oncology, currently working in the private sector. She is also the honorary clinical associate professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the University of Hong Kong.
Dr. Chu obtained her primary medical degree from the University of Hong Kong. She then started her specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Queen Mary Hospital. She obtained her MRCOG in 2009 and became a fellow in the Hong Kong College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2011. She completed her subspecialty training in Gynaecological Oncology by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2014 and then served as a consultant in Queen Mary Hospital until 2024.
Dr. Chu spent one year at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge United Kingdom as a clinical fellow in 2014 during her subspecialty training. She was also awarded the Corporate Scholarship from the Hospital Authority of Hong Kong for training of robotic surgery in the United States in 2019.
Dr. Chu is an accredited surgeon in advanced laparoscopy and an accredited robotic surgeon since 2012. She is now the chairman of the Guideline Subcommittee of the Hong Kong College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Her main research interests include hereditary cancer syndrome and molecular classification of endometrial carcinoma.

Dr Richard Wong
Council member
Dr Richard Wong is a consultant pathologist at the Department of Pathology, United Christian Hospital in Hong Kong, responsible for clinical services in gynaecological pathology and molecular pathology. He is also an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology, University of Hong Kong, and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, City University of Hong Kong. He has undertaken training in gynaecological pathology under Prof Glenn McCluggage and Prof Blake Gilks, and also completed a Master of Science in Genomics and Bioinformatics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is a contributor for the World Health Organization classification of female genital tumours (5th edition). His research interests include gastrointestinal-type mucinous lesions in the female genital tract and the application of immunohistochemistry and molecular studies in gynaecological pathology.

Dr. Ng Tong Yow
Council member
Dr. Ng Tong Yow is a specialist in gynaecological oncology, possessing extensive training and experience in advanced laparoscopic surgery.
Professional Background and Training: Dr. Ng received his training at Queen Mary Hospital, The University of Hong Kong, the Queensland Gynaecological Cancer Centre, and the University of Miami. He is currently engaged in private practice, focusing on the surgical management of gynaecological cancers and complex pelvic surgery for benign conditions.
Academic and Professional Roles: Dr. Ng holds the position of Honorary Associate Professor at The University of Hong Kong. He serves as the Director of the Peritoneal Malignancy Treatment Centre and Co-Director of the Gynaecological Oncology Centre at Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong. Additionally, Dr. Ng is a member of several professional societies and has previously chaired the Gynaecological Oncology Subspecialty Board.
Research and Innovations: Dr. Ng actively participates in international collaborative studies, has contributed to the WHO Safe Surgery Checklist, and co-authored the LACE Trial. He has pioneered innovative surgical approaches, including the first OVHIPEC in Hong Kong and the use of SILS and NOTES for various conditions. Furthermore, he led a first in-human trial of a novel articulated endoscopic system and performed the first Versius robotic-assisted hysterectomy in Hong Kong.

Ms. Jacky Tong
Council member
Ms. Jacky Tong is currently serving as a Cancer Support Specialist at Maggie’s Centre, where she provides comprehensive support to cancer patients and their families. Her role includes offering accurate cancer-related information, emotional support, and facilitating disease-specific support groups. Through these group sessions, she fosters peer connection, mutual encouragement, and holistic well-being across all phases of the cancer journey—from diagnosis to survivorship and palliative care.
Previously, Jacky worked as a Palliative Home Care Nurse at Bradbury Hospice (Hospital Authority) and later as an Advanced Practice Nurse at the Jockey Club Home for Hospice. In these roles, she specialized in home-based end-of-life care, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver symptom management, as well as psychosocial and spiritual care, tailored to the needs of terminal patients and their families.
Additionally, Jacky has experience working at the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation, where she led breast cancer support groups, family support programs, rehabilitation exercises, and lymphoedema management, demonstrating her dedication to empowering patients throughout recovery.

Ms. Karen Woo
Council member
Ms. Karen Woo is a Clinical Psychologist with the Hospital Authority, specializing in the psychological care of patients and families facing complex medical conditions. Karen received her MSSc in Clinical Psychology and MSocSc in Counselling from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The University of Hong Kong respectively, equipping her with a unique dual perspective on psychological interventions. Prior to her work at medical settings, Karen worked as a counsellor supporting individuals across the lifespan with diverse mental health challenges, grounding her current practice in holistic, lifespan-informed care.
In her current role, Karen provides evidence-based psychological assessments and interventions tailored to the needs of patients and their families. Her work fosters resilience, supports adjustment to illness and enhance well-being across all phases of the illness journey, from diagnosis, to survivorship or palliative care.
Committed to patient-centered care, Karen actively collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to bridge psychological and medical services. She is a passionate advocate for the systemic integration of psychosocial care in comprehensive medical treatment while strengthening partnerships among patients, families, and providers.

Ms. Suzanne So-Shan MAK
Council member
Ms Mak is currently Oncology Nurse Consultant in Hospital Authority, the Co-opted Member of the Accreditation Committee in Nursing Council of Hong Kong, and the Vice President in HK College of Medical Nursing. She has extensive experience in oncology and apheresis nursing that make up her expertise to help new rapid development of cellular therapy in the field. She has multiple publications, including papers reflecting her series of research work on both specialty and generic clinical practice, and her endeavor on quality and patient care improvement. She has also gained various awards including research grants, Asian Hospital Management Awards for her leading clinical quality improvement service and project.

Dr Elaine Lee
Council member
Dr Elaine Lee received her undergraduate medical training at the University of Nottingham, UK.
She completed her specialist training in radiology and fellowship in Wales, UK. She joined the
Department of Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Hong Kong in 2010. Here, she
developed her subspecialty interest in gynae-oncology, specifically in the application of
functional and molecular imaging techniques in this field. She is the first advocate of intravoxel
incoherent motion imaging (IVIM), a novel MRI technique in cervical cancer. More recently, her
work has evolved around the applications of radiomics and AI in gynaecological cancer imaging.
Her published works include > 100 original articles and abstracts in the field of Radiology and
Nuclear Medicine and an invited book chapter contribution in the seminal book on IVIM by
Professor Le Bihan, a pioneer and world-renowned researcher on diffusion MRI technology. She
is the primary investigator and recipient of competitive national grants in advancing the research
in gynae-oncology imaging with established international and national collaborations. She is a
Fellow of the International Cancer Imaging Society since 2022.
Apart from Research and Scholarship, Dr Lee has taken an active role in Teaching and Learning.
She has led the first structured undergraduate ultrasound curriculum in Hong Kong, leading to
the award of HKU Faculty of Medicine Teaching Medal in 2019. She has been instrumental in
introducing new pedagogies in the undergraduate teaching with several pedagogy publications,
the most recent being the application of AI in providing feedback on learning ultrasound skills
among medical students.

Dr. Edith Cheng
Council member
Dr. Edith Cheng graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and obtained her fellowship from the Hong Kong College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (HKCOG) in 2008. She became a fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) in 2019. With a special interest in minimally invasive surgery and gynecological oncology, Dr. Cheng received specialized training in Taiwan in 2016. She collaborates closely with surgical teams, urologists, pathologists, clinical oncologists, and radiologists to enhance gynecological oncology services at United Christian Hospital. Currently, Dr. Cheng serves as the Chief of Service in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology for the Kowloon East Cluster, where she is dedicated to improving patient care, fostering multidisciplinary collaboration, and elevating service standards through innovative practices and comprehensive surgical training initiatives. Her commitment to quality ensures that both patients and healthcare professionals benefit from high-quality care and education.
